It was bound to happen. With a record of 15-0 (many of them were double-digit wins), the only undefeated team remaining, and a Player of the Year candidate the Louisville Baseball team is now #1 in the country.
The Baseball America Rankings, which are the ones that are the most looked at, have the Cards on top. Florida State, TCU, Oregon State, and Florida round out the top five.
National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has U of L at #1. Oregon State, TCU, Florida State, and Florida are the others in the top five.
USA Today puts the Cards at #1. Oregon State, Florida State, TCU, and Florida round out the top five.
D1Baseball.com has Louisville ranked #4. Florida State, Oregon State, TCU, and Florida are the others in the top five.
The Cards are currently 28th in RPI, but that should increase drastically when conference play gets going.
The #1 ranking is the first in program history for a team that has had incredible success under Coach Dan McDonnell. Year after year he sends players to the MLB. Year after year he also maintains a program that plays in a regional, super regional, and has made the College World Series three times.
Of course, now there is plenty of pressure with the undefeated record and #1 ranking, but we are still happy with where the program is and how this season is going.
