The series finale against the Durham Bulls wasn’t good. The Bats lost 13-3, behind a power show from Tampa Bay’s triple-A affiliate. Nick Senzel hit two home runs in the loss.
Jose Lopez pitched his worst outing of the season. He entered the game with a stretch where he gave up just five earned runs over 30 innings; from May 20th to June 15th. He only made it 2.1 innings against the Bulls. He gave up eight runs, all earned, on ten hits; two of which left the park.
Kean Wong plated across Durham’s first run on a fielder’s choice in the first. Then, Brandon Snyder recorded the second RBI on a line-drive that was mis-handled by Gabriel Guerrero.
Then, Jeremy Hazelbaker hit the first home run of the game, in the second. The ball went to right, and was the center fielder’s sixth home run of 2018.
Brandon Lowe hit Durham’s second home run in the third. Wong recorded an RBI single. Then, Ji-Man Choi hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot, to right.
Nick Senzel erased the shutout in the bottom of the third. He belted a deep home run on a 3-2 count to straightaway center.
Choi erased Senzel’s contribution in the sixth. He hit a two-run shot to left.
Durham’s starter, Forrest Snow, pitched well. He went seven innings, and gave up just one run, which was earned, on five hits and one walk. He struck out six. The run was the home run by Senzel. He received the win in the game.
Senzel hit a two-run shot in the eighth, for his ninth multi-hit game in the last 11 games.
The Bats host the Norfolk Tides tomorrow, for a three-game weekend series. Game one features LHP Brandon Finnegan (2-5, 5.50), vs. LHP John Means (2-1, 4.25). The game will be at 7pm at Louisville Slugger Field.
