Some bad, more good
2016 was another busy year for the Louisville Cardinals. Let's take a look at some of the good and bad.
Lamar Jackson Wins Heisman - Good Jackson became Louisville's first ever Heisman victory. He recorded 51 touchdowns on the season.
Citrus Bowl - Bad After a 9-1 start, the football team closed the season losing to Houston, Kentucky, and then getting blown out by LSU in the Citrus Bowl.
Edwin Kibichiy - Good The senior cross country runner had a fantastic year, finishing eighth at the NCAA Championships.
Stripper Scandal - Bad We all remember Andre McGee, Katina Powell, and that horror story.
Elite Eight for Soccer - Good The men's soccer team made it to the Elite Eight under Coach Lolla's leadership.
Volleyball and the Scary Season - Bad The volleyball team had their worst season this millennium and Coach Kordes resigned after six seasons and four conference championships.
The Olympics - Good Louisville sent 12 former and current athletes and one coach to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Angel McCoughtry and Kelsi Worrell returned home with gold medals.
Shooting Off 7th - Bad Two football players and a cheerleader were shot at the Retreat off campus near 7th Street. All three suffered non-life threatening injruies and are receovering swiftly.
Czech Golfer of the Year- Good Sophomore Simon Zach was named Czech Golfer of the Year following his performance at the European Championship in Estonia.
Social Media Scandal - Bad A few spirit squad members faced negative backlash following a series of social media posts following the presedential election.
Honorable mentions: Baseball made it to the Super Regional for a third straight year. The cheerleaders and ladybirds won three national championships at the NCA/NDA Championship in Dayton. 346 student-athletes made the ACC Honor Roll for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Louie's new look Louie debuted a change during the U of L vs UK men's basketball game. He is thinner and his teeth have grown. Fans have had their opinions on the new look so to each his (or her) own.
2016 had some rotten pieces in the cake, but much of it was super sweet. We close out the year and look forward to what Louisville accomplishes in 2017. As always, it's great to be a Louisville Cardinal!
