A day after defeating the No. 4 team in the nation 8-2, the No. 11 Louisville Cardinals locked in a series win against them.
The No. 4 team, NC State, tied the series against them, by winning _-_.
Nick Bennett started the game, and had a decent outing. He went six deep, and gave up three runs, two of which were earned, on four hits. He threw 93 pitches, 64 of which went for strikes. Bennett also recorded eight strikeouts in the game.
NC State opened scoring in the fourth inning. Left-fielder Brett Kinneman singled to center, scoring the Wolfpack's first run.
Danny Oriente gave Louisville the lead in the bottom of the inning. He looped a single into right-center field, scoring Josh Stowers and Devin Mann. Louisville led 2-1 heading into the fifth inning.
Then, in the next inning, Tyler Fitzgerald notched an RBI on a soft single past the shortstop. If the infield was playing at regular depth, it would have likely been an out. Regardless, it gave Louisville the 3-1 lead.
NC State tied the game on a two-run home run by Patrick Bailey. The ball looped to right, barely clearing the wall next to the foul pole.
Drew Campbell broke the tie in the sixth, after launching a double to center field that scored Danny Oriente. It was Campbell's fourth dobule, and 16th RBI of 2018. Then, Justin Lavey notched his 22nd and 23rd season RBI on a double to left-center. At the end of six, Louisville had a three-run lead.
NC State wouldn't give up. An error by the third-baseman scored the Wolfpack's first run. Then, a fielding error in right off a single plated across the Wolfpack's second run.
The Wolfpack completed their comeback in the ninth inning. They tallied four runs off a three-run double and an RBI single off Sam Bordner. The Louisville closer received the loss in the game.
The Cards will look for the series win tomorrow. The game is at 1pm.
