After falling in the second game of the series on a walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning last night, Louisville needed to regroup and find a way to take the series and it did just that winning 14-3. As Luke Smith had arguably his best performance of the year with 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K's. The Cards were able to jump out to an early 11-0 lead in the fifth inning. Louisville brought the bats Sunday in the rubber game of the series, pounding out 14 runs on 14 hits.
In the second inning with two outs and two aboard for the Cards Justin Lavey singled home Levi Usher and Danny Oriente giving the Cards an early 2-0 lead.
Luke Brown started the third inning with a bunt single and would advance to second due to a balk on Wake Forest stating pitcher William Fleming. With one out Zach Britton hit a ground rule double into right bringing home Brown. Then with two outs, Usher would double home Britton making it 4-0.
The scoring in the fifth inning for Louisville started when Britton doubled home Brown and Metzinger was sent to third, then Wake intentionally walked Oriente to bring up Usher who would single home Metzinger. With the bases loaded, Henry Davis singled home Britton and Oriente. Lavey would come up with the based loaded and ground into a double play however Usher would score on the play and Davis was sent to third. Then with Two outs Jared Poland hit a two run home run that would cap off the inning giving Louisville an 11-0 lead.
Wake Forest would get on the board with a solo home run from DJ poteet in the bottom of the sixth.
Henry Davis would get the run back for Louisville with a solo home run in the seventh, however that wouldnt be all for the Cards as Andrew Benefield would pinch hit for Metzinger with two outs and double home Poland and Lavey making it 14-1 Cards.
Wake would add two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Louisville heads home for a two game series in the midweek against Chicago State.
