Reid Detmers had 10 K's on friday afternoon to lead Louisville to a 4-2 win.

Western Michigan came into the game scoring 77 runs in its last series, However the Louisville pitching staff was able to hold them to just two runs on six hits. Louisville ace Reid Detmers lead the charge with 10 Strikeouts, six of those came when the Broncos had runners on third base. Louisville was able to rely on three sacrifice fly's and a Levi Usher RBI single and hold on to a 4-2 win. Freshman Even Webster was awarded the win, Michael Kirian with the save.
In the top of the first Western Michigan scored on a Justin McIntyre one out solo home run. The Broncos were able to load the bases with one out, however Reid Detmers was able to work his way out of the jam with back to back strikeouts to end the threat.
Louisville responded in the bottom of the second as Levi Usher started the inning with a single and was later brought home by Andrew Benefield with a sacrifice fly.
Back to back singles for Louisville in the fourth from Danny Oriente and Usher started the inning, then Ben Bianco was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Justin Lavey who brought home Oriente with a sacrifice fly to center field giving the Cards a 2-1 lead.
Western Michigan would tie the game in the Top of the fifth with a Logan Hudson single.
Louisville would regain the lead in the 6th inning with a sacrifice fly from Lavey making it 3-2.
Louisville added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th with a single from Levi Usher making it 4-2.
Webster came in relief of Detmers and get his first career win. The freshman allowed no hits, one walk and had two strikeouts.
Kirian was able to get the save for Louisville.
Game two of the series is set for Saturday at 1 PM.
