defense holds mtsu to under 10 each quarter in win
This felt like a mismatch. No. 4 Louisville trounced another opponent from Tennessee Saturday; downing Middle Tennessee State University 80-26. It was Louisville's most dominant defensive performance this season. The Cards held Middle Tennessee State to under ten every quarter, and defeated the Raiders by 54.
The game was tied.... for all of 19 seconds. Then, it was all Louisville. The Cards proceeded to go on a dominant 21-0 run, spanning from 8:39 to 3:15, before Middle Tennessee scored their next point; a free-throw. The Cards ended the first quarter tying their season-high point total of 32. Louisville shot 83.3 percent from the field, and had 18 points off of 10 forced turnovers. Louisville had a 26-point advantage heading into the second quarter.
Louisville didn't let up in the second. Middle Tennessee scored a grand total of seven points, and their score didn't hit double digits until the 2:34 mark in the quarter. On the other side of the ball, Louisville shot 58.3 percent, 33.3 from three, and forced another nine turnovers. At the half, Louisville led 55-13. The Cards were on-pace to tie, or come close to the program high points-total.
The third wasn't as sharp offensively. The Cards outscored MTSU, 14-7. They went 5 for 13 from two, and 1 for 3 from three. Louisville did force another nine turnovers, but were out-rebounded 14-7. The score was 69-20 heading into the final quarter.
Louisville ended the game holding the Raiders to six. They outscored Middle Tennessee 11-6. The Cards shot 50 percent from the field, and 50 from three.
Four Cards had more than ten points, led by Asia Durr's 19. Sam Fuehring led the team with five rebounds, and Dana Evans had six assists. The Cards move to 11-0, extending their best start since 2006. Louisville will conclude their long homestand against schools from Tennessee Tuesday, December 12th, against Tennessee State at 7 pm.
