The game that ruins your undefeated season sucks. Losing two in a row after starting 19-0 hurts more.
Cincinnati 6, Louisville 3 A very average Bearcats team overcame the Cards for their first loss of the season. A four run second inning propelled Cincy into an early lead. The Cards accumulated six hits on the game, two players had two apiece. Pitching wasn't pretty. Louisville had seven different pitchers on the mound throughout the game.
Louisville then traveled to Raleigh to visit NC State.
Game One: NC State 3, Louisville 1 Pitching wasn't the problem for this game. Brendan McKay went seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, but totaled 14 strikeouts. Rabon Martin finished the game, allowing no hits. The bats were dead, or stuck on the shoulders. The Cards totaled 12 strikeouts- a season high- and finished with seven hits. Josh Stowers went two-for-four with a triple and a stolen base for pretty much the only highlight.
Game Two: Louisville 7, NC State 6 (10 innings) A win is a win and sometimes it takes some extra time to pull it off. Devin Hairston's RBI single in the 10th to score Tyler Fitzgerald lifted the Cards over the Wolfpack. Colby Fitch and Devin Mann homered in the win. Kade McClure got the start on the mound, but was pulled early in the fourth after allowing three runs. Lincoln Henzman came in for the final three innings, allowing three runs, but got the win.
