The Louisville volleyball team is trying to make as much from this season as possible. They aren't going to the NCAA Tournament and Coach Kordes is resigning at the end of the season, but they can still win. Louisville fell at Georgia Tech 3-1 before winning at Clemson 3-0 later that weekend.
On Friday night, U of L was coming off of the announcement of Coach Kordes resigning and had to hit the road. They Yellow Jackets took the win 3-1 (29-27, 26-24, 20-25, 25-19). Melanie McHenry continued her dominance with 11 kills, 12 digs, and two aces. Molly Sauer had 24 digs while Morgan Miller continued her hot streak with eight kills, one ace, five blocks, 24 assists, and 10 digs. Going into halftime down 2-0 is difficult, but that didn't stop the Cards from battling back to win a set right after the half. In the first and second sets Louisville battled as much as possible, but ultimately fell.
Sunday afternoon was a visit to Clemson. U of L pulled off the 3-0 win (25-18, 25-23, 25-17). McHenry and Miller led the way. McHenry had 14 kills, 14 digs, and three blocks. Miller contributed six kills, three aces, one block, 14 assists, and 10 digs. Sauer added another 12 digs and two aces.
Notes Many of the players leading the way for Louisville are freshmen and sophomores, which shows great promise for upcoming seasons.
Molly Sauer broke 1,000 career digs this past weekend, just before the conclusion of the 2016 season. She is on pace to record more than 2,000 digs.
Louisville is still battling injuries. Kali Eaken and Janelle Jenkins have both seen minimal playing time due to multiple injuries. Maggie DeJong and Ashley Pettibone have both been recovering from injuries, but did see some action.
Schedule Louisville has two matches left, both at home. They host Syracuse on Wednesday night and Boston College on Friday night. The match against the Eagles will be senior night. Lyndsay Palmer and Janelle Jenkins will be recognized as seniors and Coach Kordes will be recognized duing her final game.
