Asia durr scores 32, leading cards in the battle of the bluegrass
The Louisville Cardinals extended their best start since 2006-07 Sunday, against their arch-rival; Kentucky. Louisville won 87-63in an impressive fashion on the road. Asia Durr had 32 points, and five women had more than ten points. Sam Fuehring had a double-double, with ten points and ten rebounds.
Louisville asserted themselves early in the first. Sam Fuehring made a tip-shot. Asia Durr made a jumper, then a three-pointer. The Cards were up 7-0 at the 7:16 mark. Overall, Louisville shot 50 percent from the field and beyond the arc, and out-rebounded the Wildcats 10-5. Through one, Louisville led 23-16.
It was quiet for the first four minutes of the second. Both teams missed all but one shot each. Then, Louisville tacked on 23 to end the quarter. The Cards led 47-25 at halftime. The Cards outscored Kentucky 24-9 in the second quarter.
Through the first half, Durr led scorers with 16 points. She was followed by Arica Carter’s nine points. Sam Fuehring had five rebounds. Freshman Dana Evans led Louisville with six assists.
The Cards outscored Kentucky 22-20 in a much-closer third quarter. Myisha Hines-Allen had six points in the first two minutes of the quarter. Then, Durr scored six points through the next four minutes. Kentucky had the period point total tied, until Hines-Allen made a layup in the last second.
Louisville held on in the fourth, and solidified the 24-point win.
Overall, Louisville shot 48.5% from the field, were 10 for 23 beyond the arc, and out-rebounded Kentucky 36-25. Fuehring led the team with ten rebounds, followed by Myisha Hines-Allen's nine rebounds. Hines-Allen was one rebound short of a double-double. Dana Evans was also just one assist short of a double-double, and was the only bench player with more than ten points. Louisville looks to continue its win streak in Colorado Springs, against the Air Force Academy Wednesday at 7pm.
