Strong second half propels cards
Despite a slow start and small halftime lead #9 Louisville field hockey (12-6, 4-2 ACC) won their senior day and regular season finale 6-0. The near-freezing temperatures could not stop the Cardinals from scoring five goals in the second half for the blowout.
All six goals came from different players including Minout Mink, who scored her team-leading ninth goal, and senior Abby Grimes, one of three seniors recognized before the game.
Abby Grimes, Nicole Woods, and Marigrace Ragsdale received flowers and a framed jersey before the game in recognition for four years with the team. Athletic director Vince Tyra was present for the ceremony.
Coach Justine Sowry gave compliments to all three seniors during her postgame interview, "This senior class has had a great successful career, three earning NCAA tournament berths and representing our team within the ACC . They're all three great leaders, very competitive, and they wanted to put together a great performance this weekend. They're even more motivated for next week at the ACC Tournament."
The Cardinals remain home with the ACC Tournament being held at Trager Stadium. Louisville is the 3-seed and faces 6-seed Syracuse Thursday at 4:00 pm.
Note: Admission is $5 and free for UofL students with a valid ID.
