Louisville has punched their ticket to Columbus. They're in the Final Four. For the first time since 2013, and third time in the Jeff Walz era; and overall, the Louisville Cardinals have won their region, and will be playing for a spot in the National Championship.
In the Lexington regional final, The Cardinals trounced Oregon State, 76-43, Behind Oregon's 17 turnovers, resulting in 24 points.
Louisville was led by Asia Durr's strong performance, with 18 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Four Cards scored in the double-digits.
Like the last game, Louisville did not go on a long run in the first. Most of their lead was built on a 7-1 run midways through the quarter. Shooting wasn't good. The Cards hit 5 of 17 from the field. They were one for five beyond the arc. They scooped up six turnovers, but only scored three points off of them. At the end of one, Louisville led 14-8.
Shooting improved in the second. The Cards hit 54 percent, and 43 percent beyond the arc. Despite the better shooting, Louisville couldn't pull away. The Beavers responded to all of Louisville's baskets. Oregon State hit 60 percent. They only allowed a one-point Louisville lead for the quarter. Heading into the locker room, Louisville had a 31-24 lead.
Defense stepped up in the third. Louisville outscored Oregon State 28-12. The Cardinals went on two massive runs: 12-2 and 11-2. The Cardinals hit 61 percent. They were three for seven from three. Louisville forced six turnovers, resulting in 12 points. At the end of the third, Louisville led 59-36
By this point, the game was practically over. Louisville still extended their lead, helped partially by an 8-1 run. Myisha Hines-Allen fouled herself out in the fourth, and left her final game in the state of Kentucky with a smile. Louisville outscored Oregon State 17-7 to end the game.
The Cardinals will play Friday, at either 7 or 9:30, against the winner of Mississippi State or UCLA. Then, the Cardinals will be in the National championship. The game will be at Nationwide Arena, in Columbus, Ohio
