South Bend, Ind.- In a rematch between the Louisville and Northwestern lacrosse teams the Wildcats came out victorious 15-5. During the regular season the Cards won 10-4 at the Louisville lacrosse stadium. Northwestern will play Notre Dame in the second round. In the regular season the Cards upset the Irish 10-9 in overtime on Louisville’s home turf.
Things were tough from the get-go when the Cards trailed 1-0 less than one minute into the game. By halftime, UofL was already down 9-2. Coach Young attempted to fire up her team, but was outscored in the second half 6-3.
Three Cardinals scored goals. Senior Cortnee Daley and junior Hannah Koloski scored twice apiece while senior Kaylin Morisette added another. Morisette also had an assist, as well as junior Heidi Smith.
With starting goalkeeper Brittany Read out for the season Kelly Gielner was prepared to step up to the plate. Gielner, who recently rejoined the team, has been the only healthy GK on the roster in the past few games. She recorded three saves against the Wildcats offense.
This was the final game in a Louisville uniform for five seniors. The highlight reel of this season will be full of spectacular plays by these seniors. The final record for the Cards stands at 12-6, where they are expected to finish the season ranked in the top 25.
