In a rematch from an intense game earlier this season, the Louisville Cardinals faced the NC State Wolfpack in an ACC quarterfinal match-up. During the regular season the Wolfpack came out on top in the final second of overtime, hitting a buzzer-beater. This time the #14 Cardinals defeated #17 NC State 59-58.
Junior Myisha Hines-Allen sank two free throws with 19.4 seconds remaining to seal the win.
NC State attempted a shot from near the free throw line in the final seconds that missed, guaranteeing a match-up against 1-seed Notre Dame tomorrow.
Asia Durr found herself in the spotlight again with 28 points and making four 3-pointers. She led the team at the free throw line going 8-for-9. The team made 88.2% of their free throws.
Three point shooting was not good for the Cards. Other than Durr, Mariya Moore was the only Cardinal to attempt one. She missed all six on the day.
Coach Walz was displeased with his team's 17 turnovers, compared to NC State's six.
Louisville turned a 10 point first quarter deficit and a two point halftime deficit into a lead in the third quarter. That's where Hines-Allen lit up the second half with 14 of her 16 points. The Cards out-rebounded the Wolfpack 16-11 in the second half.
The win sends the Cards to the ACC semifinal where they will face Notre Dame. The winner between Louisville and Notre Dame will take on the winner of the other side of the bracket for the championship.
