The Louisville Bats dropped game two to the Mud Hens, losing to the top farm club of the Detroit Tigers, 5-3. Justin Nicolino pitched well, but the bullpen collapsed late in the game, leading to the loss.
Josh VanMeter hit his ninth home run of 2018 to right field in the bottom of the second. He ripped a 1-1 pitch to score himself and Tim Federowicz. Then, a couple batters later, Blake Trahan hit an RBI single to plate CJ McElroy.
Dawel Lugo hit his 25th double of the year to left in the top of the third. He scored two runners, Daz Cameron and Christin Stewart.
Nicolino went five innings, and gave up two runs, both unearned, on one walk and three strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 4.78.
He faced off against Tyler Alexander. Alexander went 5.1 innings, and gave up three runs, all earned, on seven hits and one walk. He struck out six.
Jimmy Herget allowed three runs in the top of the seventh to blow the lead. The first was on an RBI double by Kade Scivique. Then, the second was on an RBI triple from Pete Kozma. The third was on an RBI fielder's choice by Jacob Robson.
Herget was removed from the game after the third run scored.
Louisville moves to 54-71. They face off against the Mud Hens tomorrow in the series finale. RHP Jose Lopez (5-11, 4.44) takes on LHP Matt Hall (3-0, 2.61). The Bats look for to avoid the sweep. Only two home series will take place after tomorrow.
