The Louisville Bats returned to Slugger Field to open their final homestand in the month of August. The leadoff game was a loss to the Toledo Mud Hens, 5-2.
Louisville scored first, in the first inning. Brian O’Grady recorded an RBI groundout at second, sending Josh VanMeter to home.
Toledo jumped ahead in the top of the second. Jarrod Saltalamacchia ripped his 1-0 pitch to left field for an RBI single, scoring Dawel Lugo and Jason Krizan.
The Mud Hens added two more in the top of the third, on Christin Stewart’s 20th home run of the season. It was a blast to right field.
VanMeter plated one across for Louisville in the bottom of the third. He scored CJ McElroy on a single to center.
Lugo tacked on a run in the top of the sixth. He ripped his third home run of the season to right field. It was a solo-shot.
Lucas Sims pitched a quality start for Louisville. He finished with seven innings, and gave up Three earned runs on seven hits and three walks. He gave up a total of five runs. Sims also struck out seven.
The Bats move to 54-70. They take on Toledo tomorrow at 6:30. LHP Justin Nicolino (5-6, 4.99) takes on LHP Tyler Alexander (3-6, 5.00). The game is at Slugger Field.
