A big lead in the first half was nearly erased by halftime as the Louisville men's basketball team fell at Wake Forest 84-74. The #8 Cardinals fall to 23-7 and 11-6 in ACC play. The Demon Deacons improve to 17-12 and 8-9 in conference play.
Fouls were abundant for both teams, 44 total. Donovan Mitchell had five of those fouls, while all seven of his points came early in the first half. Jaylen Johnson also fouled out late in the game, but not before putting up 13 points.
Mangok Mathiang had one of the few bright moments in the game, as he had a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds). Deng Adel led the Cards in scoring with 22 points, many of them in the second half.
Wake Forest had an offense that got hot late in the first half and stayed hot the remainder of the game. The Demon Deacons trailed by only one point at halftime before starting the second half on a run. Five players scored in double digits, highlighted by John Collins' 25 points and Keyshawn Woods' 20.
Free throws- a weakness Louisville has had this season- were one of the better sides of the game. The Cards shot 18-for-22.
Following the conclusion of the game the Wake Forest fans rushed the court to celebrate the program's first win over an AP Top-10 team for the first time since 2014.
Louisville returns home on Saturday to host Notre Dame for senior day and the final regular season game.
