The Louisville Cardinals went to Winston-Salem, but fell short to No. 1 Wake Forest, 2-1; in extra time.
Izaiah Jennings hit his second goal of the season in the 37th minute. It was a shot to the lower right corner, assisted by Pedro Fonseca.
Louisville’s lead would stand for the next few minutes. At the 61:40 mark, Wake’s Aristotle Zarris (Not the Greek philosopher) redirected the ball from a cross past Jake Gelnovatch. It was Zarris’ fifth score of the season, and was assisted by Omir Fernandez.
The game went to overtime. The golden goal came in the 97th minute. Bruno Lapa shot past Gelnovatch to the top right corner; for his tenth of the season. Justin McMaster assisted the win.
The Cardinals finish 8-4-3 (4-2-2 ACC). Louisville is second in the ACC Atlantic Division. The first round of the ACC championship will take place on Halloween; October 31st. Louisville will wait for the rest of the conference to finish play to see what seed they will end with.
