Louisville men's soccer defeated South Florida 4-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Four different players scored in the victory.
The Cards improve to 9-7-2 on the year and advance to the second round against #14 UC Davis on Sunday, Nov. 24.
Louisville and USF met earlier this season in Tampa, with the Bulls claiming a 2-0 victory then.
Bradley Sample scored the Cards' first goal of the match in the 21st minute. Leonard Getz set a corner kick perfectly in the box for Sample to drive in, his first career goal.
Pedro Fonseca joined in on the scoring just two minutes later. Sample passed the ball ahead to Fonseca, who took a deep shot that soared past the goalkeeper.
Louisville led 2-0 at the half.
USF cut the difference in half with a goal in the 68th minute.
Izaiah Jennings answered with a Louisville goal seconds later. Cherif Dieye passed to Jennings, who had an open net from the center of the box.
Louisville added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when Dieye broke away and dribbled through a pair of USF defenders for a goal.
Louisville will not return home this season. They finished the season 7-4-1 at home.
