Louisville volleyball continued the solid start to their season by going 2-1 at the Purdue Tournament, finishing behind the host. Their record moves to 6-3 following the weekend.
Game One: Louisville 3, Lipscomb 1 (25-20, 25-14, 28-30, 25-23)
The Cards dominated the first half before wearing down in the second half. Melanie McHenry led all scorers with 17 kills and received help from Jasmine Bennett's 14 kills and Megan Sloan's 10 kills. Molly Sauer recorded an impressive five aces. Freshman Emily Scott led the defense with seven blocks.
Game Two: Louisville 3, Xavier 0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-14)
The Cards recorded their fifth sweep in six wins, easily defeating Xavier. McHenry finished with 15 kills and was assisted by Claire Chaussee's eight kills. Wilma Rivera recorded 28 assists on the match and Sauer finished with nine digs.
Game Three: #19 Purdue 3, Louisville 2 (25-23, 17-25, 28-26, 13-25, 15-10)
Host Purdue held on to beat Louisville in a barnburner. Louisville's two victories in the match were by a large margin while the three sets they lost all stayed close. McHenry had another 17 kill outing and Sloan added 14. Rivera finished the match with a whopping 46 assists. Sauer was credited with 30 digs and had help from McHenry's 18.
The two-week road trip resulted in a 3-3 record with all losses coming to ranked opponents (#4 Florida, #7 USC, #19 Purdue) and all wins coming by sweep or 3-1. They return home to a sold out Cardinal Arena when they host Kentucky on Friday at 7:00 p.m. They then host Chattanooga on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., wrapping up shortly before the football game against Western Kentucky kicks off.
