After defeating Ohio State 2-1 on Thursday, the Louisville Cardinals women’s soccer team won their second game on Sunday. Three goals by three different players propelled Louisville over Morehead State, 3-0; in Louisville’s home opener at Lynn Stadium. The game was also the first in the 2019-2020 Louisville Cardinals athletics regular season.
Louisville owned the shot column, and kept the ball mostly in the attacking side of the field. In fact, Morehead did not get a shot off throughout the game. Louisville’s defense gave Keepers Gabrielle Kouzelos and Lana Batson an easy night. Morehead also committed 13 fouls across all play in the game.
In the 24th minute, Maisie Whitsett scored off an assist from Arianna Ferraro. It was the only goal in the first half. The Cardinals had nine shots in the first half- three of which were saved. Louisville also had eight corner kicks.
Delaney Snyder booted a ball past the goalkeeper off an assist from Emina Ekic in the second, putting Louisville up 2-0. The goal came at the 52:58 mark in the game. Then, Sarah Hernandez scored a goal off an assist from Allison Whitfield in the 63rd minute.
Louisville finished the game with 17 shots, 6 shots on goal, 6 fouls, and 14 corners. Both teams had two offsides.
The Cardinals move to 2-0. They look to continue their undefeated season on Thursday, August 29th, against Saint Louis. The game is at Lynn Stadium at 7:30 pm.
