Looking to stay perfect, the Louisville Cardinals took on the Dayton Flyers, and won 5-2. Dayton had an 11-2 advantage over Louisville, with the Cards taking the past two.
Louisville quickly took advantage of Dayton and five starting freshmen. The Cards stole the ball and Taylor Kerwin scored an early goal 59 seconds into the game, assisted by Delaney Snyder. Louisville scored a second goal a few minutes later. A Dayton defender, gave Maisie Whitsett a penalty kick at the 35:45 mark of the first half. Louisville scored at 33:35, with an assist from Emina Ekic to Snyder.
The second half opened with a new lineup for Louisville, with Karen Ferguson-Dayes resting the starters for a matchup with No. 9 Vanderbilt. Dayton’s Laney Huber took advantage and scored at the 40:39 mark (3-1).
Louisville dusted off their shoulder and scored another goal (4-1). Brooklyn Rivers entered the game and scored Louisville’s fourth goal at 50:31 into the game.
Dayton showed grit and captured one more goal. Alexis Goins scored a spectacular goal off an assist from Laney Huber less than 30 seconds later. The goal scored 50:56 into the game (4-2).
Louisville, answered with another goal off a corner kick from Emina Ekic to Sarah Hernandez, that fell into a perfect spot in the box behind the goalie’s head. It scored 60:12 minutes in. The 5-2 Louisville lead held and was the final score.
Louisville’s record improves to 6-0. On Sunday, they will face off against Vanderbilt at Lynn Stadium. The game is at 6pm. It will be on ACC Network Extra.
