The Louisville Cardinals entered tonight’s game with a target on their backs after being ranked #2 in the AP Top 25. They took on the South Carolina Upstate Spartans and won 76-50.
The Spartans shot 50% from behind the arc in the first half. Jordan Nwora scored 17 of his 28 points in the first, and the Cardinals led 34-28 at halftime.
The Spartans came out in the 2nd half with more hot shooting. They took their first lead of the game with 14:25 remaining in the game (42-40). Sutton hit a three to tie the game at 43-43. Nwora knocked down two free throws followed by a three from McMahon to give the lead back to the Cardinals at 48-43. The fans came to their feet, and Louisville never looked back.
Malik Williams saw action for the first time this season after being sidelined with a broken toe in his right foot. David Johnson also returned to the lineup and both players gave the Cards a spark off the bench.
Ryan McMahon added 15 points and shot 5-8 from 3pt land. Dwayne Sutton was just shy of a double-double finishing the game with 9 pts and 15 rebounds.
Louisville improves to 5-0 on the season and will be back in action this Sunday at the KFC Yum Center against Akron. Game time is set for 6pm.
