No. 8 Louisville Field Hockey fell 3-2 in overtime to No. 24 Ohio State in Louisville's home opener. The Buckeyes rallied back in the second half to tie the game before claiming the win 90 seconds into overtime.
Mercedes Pastor put the Cards on the board in the 15th minute with her first career goal after receiving a rebound along the sideline and dribbled into the circle for an open shot.
Two minutes later, Erica Cooper scored her first career goal as well as she led a fast break down the pitch and sent her shot flying into the corner of the goal, just out of reach of the Ohio State goalkeeper.
After halftime, the Buckeyes came back. They scored their first goal off of a penalty corner in the 43rd minute. They evened the score with just over two minutes in regulation off of a shot across the circle into the goal.
In overtime, Ohio State gained possession first and capitalized with the sudden death goal to end the game.
The Cards drop to 1-1 and hit the road to face UMass-Lowell at a neutral site on Sept. 1.
