Big first half for adrien cabon propels cards
For the first time this season, regular-season NCAA men’s soccer was played on the pitch at Lynn Stadium. No. 9 Louisville was supported by a lively crowd, and the Cards sent them home happy. The Cards defeated UC Irvine 2-1, thanks to a spectacular performance from midfielder Adrien Cabon.
"I'm really happy, but most of all it's for the team" Cabon said after the game, "The most important thing is the win, it's just a good way to start the season."
The Cards found themselves down early. UC Irvine’s Mario Ortiz found the back of the new kept by Jake Gelnovatch at the 20:13 mark in the first. Then, just under five minutes later, Cabon answered with a goal from 21 yards finding UC Irvine’s upper right 90. Three minutes later, he did it again. Cabon rushed at the goalkeeper, and slipped one past him from 14 yards out.
" I felt we responded really well" Louisville head coach Ken Lolla said after the game, "I was proud of that. I felt the guys collectively did pretty well. We defended pretty well." Stellar defense by both sides kept the score pat for the second. The Cards move to 1-0 this year.
One player on the sidelines was Forward Mohamed Thiaw, The superstar is recovering from an injury. He did not play, but did dress. When asked about if Thiaw would play Monday against Butler, Lolla replied:
The Cards will be back in action Monday, August 28th at 7:30 against the No. 25 Butler Bulldogs.
