Louisville women's basketball celebrated Thanksgiving in the U.S. Virgin Islands at the Paradise Jam. They faced three opponents in as many days, and earned the sweep.
Game One: Louisville 76, UT Arlington 67
UTA was a team few knew about and they used that to their advantage, holding a small lead after the first quarter. The Cards answered by taking control of the middle two periods. They had to sweat it out down the stretch, relying on free throws to seal the deal.
Jazmine Jones posted a team-high 24 points with Dana Evans close behind with 19. The Cards struggled with ball control and committed 20 turnovers.
Game Two: Louisville 69, Oklahoma State 48
Louisville easily handled Oklahoma State, controlling the game from the start. The Pokes never scored more than 14 points in any quarter. The Cards held a 12-point halftime lead before pulling away further after the break.
Evans went off for 28 points. Elizabeth Balogun posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Bionca Dunham also had 10 rebounds. The turnover woes continued with 21.
Game Three: Louisville 72, Oregon 62
The Cards shocked the nation and the #1 Ducks in the biggest upset of the season. Oregon held a nine-point lead after the first quarter but used a 24-8 second quarter to go into halftime with the lead. They would never surrender the lead the rest of the game.
Kylee Shook, Evans, Balogun, and Jones all posted double-digit figures in scoring. Shook led the team with 15 rebounds as she posted a double-double. Dunham added 12 rebounds. The Cards cut the turnovers in half from the previous two games with just 10. Louisville limited Oregon to just 6-35 from three-point range and preseason Player of the Year Sabrina Ionescu was held to 13 points.
Louisville improved to 8-0 on the year. They hit the road for their next four games that feature Ohio State, Northern Kentucky, Kentucky, and UT Martin. When Louisville returns home they will kick off ACC play.
