The Louisville Cardinals dropped their second game of the season Sunday. They are now tied for first in the ACC with two other teams, and NC State is only a half-game back.
A huge fourth quarter for the Miami Hurricanes upset the Cardinals, who were up late in the fourth period. The Cardinals were defeated by a final score of 79-73. Asia Durr put up 16 points and 5 assists, while Dana Evans had 14 and 4, respectively.
Louisville had a 22-13 lead after the end of the first. Arica Carter hit a three within the first 23 seconds. Miami responded with a three of their own. The pace would be similar through most of the period- Louisville’s longest run was at the end of the quarter, when Kylee Shook hit a three, and Bionca Dunham put in a pair of two-point buckets.
Two minutes into the second, Louisville led by 14. Durr and Shook hit a two and three. Then, Miami chipped away. The Canes had a 10-2 run at one point in the middle-part of the period. At halftime, the score was 37-29 Louisville.
Both teams were even in rebounding, and nearly even in field goal percentage. Louisville shot 31 percent from three, while Miami made 4 of 5.
Miami exited the locker rooms with a vengeance in the second half. They went on a 10-2 run to open the period. It tied the game. Louisville was able to salvage a four-point lead three times in the period.
Entering the fourth, Louisville hung on to a 51-47 lead.
Louisville’s lead lasted until the 4:45 mark. Miami tied the game. Louisville gained a narrow lead twice, and then Emese Hof made four consecutive points to give the Canes the lead. Miami was then forced to go to the line a few times. The Hurricanes outscored Louisville by 10 in the fourth.
The Cardinals hit the road to Charlottesville, and look to get back on track against the Virginia Cavaliers. The Cards return home next Sunday, February 24th, at 2pm against Boston College. There are just two home games left before the ACC Tournament.
