The Louisville Cardinals are 8-0.
Asia Durr led the Cardinals with a 19-point performance, helping Louisville defeat Tennessee State 107-52. She led all scorers for the game. Dana Evans (17), Bionca Dunham (14), and Jazmine Jones (14) also were in the double-digits scoring.
The Cardinals led 26-17 after the first period. Louisville went on two 7-0 runs in the period; the first from 8:19 to 7:30, and the second from 3:52 to 3:15. The first included two free throws by Sam Fuehring, a jump-shot from Asia Durr, and a three-point basket by Arica Carter. Dana Evans hit a three to start the next. Jazmine Jones followed with a pair of free-throws, and a layup from Bionca Dunham.
A long 16-2 run helped increase Louisville’s lead in the second period. The Cardinals owned the middle-part of the period, from 6:09 to 1:37. At the half, Louisville led 49-31.
Durr had 11 first-half points. Dunham had 10, and Dana Evans had 9. Kylee Shook rebounded the ball seven times. Louisville shot 48.5 percent for the first half. The Cardinals made 4 of 12 from beyond the arc, and hit 13 of 14 free-throws. The Cardinals were also stingy on three-point defense; and caused Tennessee State to miss all five.
It was all Louisville in the third. The Cardinals went on a 20-3 run to start the period. Then, with 3:44 left, Evans went on a 6-0 run of her own. She hit two free throws, and had two back-to-back fast-break layups. Also in the period, Shook tied a Louisville school record with her seventh block. Shook would finish with eight.
Shook also finished with 14 rebounds, 11 of which were on defense.
The Cardinals outscored Tennessee State 37-13 in the third period. Louisville led 86-44 entering the final quarter of play.
Louisville maintained the lead in the fourth. The Cardinals went on an 11-0 run to put themselves within one-point of double-digits. Seygan Robins hit a free-throw for No. 100. The Cardinals ended the game on an 8-1 run.
The Cardinals look to win their ninth consecutive on Tuesday, December 4th against UT Martin. The game is at 7pm at the KFC Yum! Center.
