In their second road appearance in four days the Louisville women's soccer (4-0-0) team downed Michigan 3-1. All goals for the Cards were scored by junior forward Brooklynn Rivers.
Just before the seven minute mark, Rivers sent a shot into the bottom right of the corner of the net to give the Cards an early lead.
Michigan fired back 15 seconds later when Nicki Hernandez stole the ball from the defense to even the score.
At the 21 minute mark, Louisville was awarded a penalty kick. Rivers got the call to the line and faced the Wolverines' goalkeeper. She sent the ball into the left side of the goal to put the Cards back on top.
Hungry for more, Rivers came out in the second half to score her third goal of the game off of a cross by Arianna Ferraro.
The hat trick was the first of Rivers' career and the first hat trick by a Louisville player since Gabrielle Vincent did it against UAB in August 26, 2018.
Louisville is off to its best start since winning six straight to start the season in 2012. They return home to host Kentucky, who the Cards beat 3-1 in Lexington last year, Friday night at 5:30 p.m.
