The Louisville Cardinals (7-1) hosted Notre Dame, in the first home ACC match of 2018. The Cards defeated the 4-4 Fighting Irish _-_, behind an impressive second-half goal.
Louisville and Notre Dame were both aggressive at times in the first half. In the 12th minute, Notre Dame had a perfect opportunity to score- Louisville keeper Gabrielle Kouzelos fell down, and the striker moved in to score. Niamh Nelson came in from the far side, intercepting the kick and booting it to safety.
In the 19th minute, Louisville had a great opportunity to score. Brooklyn Rivers booted a ball that hit the post.
Louisville finished the first half with an 8-4 shot advantage. Each team had one shot on goal.
Notre Dame came out of the gates explosive in the second half. The Irish shot five goals, all shots on goal, within the first 15 minutes. Kouzelos saved all five.
Then, Allison Whitfield booted a high pass to Rivers, who jumped two feet in the air and headed the ball into the back right corner of the net. It was Rivers sixth goal of 2018.
Louisville tacked on to the lead in the 78th minute. Maisie Whitsett had the ball one-on-one, and booted it to the back of the net. It was Whitsett's Eighth goal, the most of the team. The goal was assisted by Emina Ekic.
Louisville moves to 8-1, and 2-0 in ACC play. The Cards host Syracuse on Sunday, September 23rd, at 1pm.
