The Louisville Cardinals hosted the No. 8 team in Women’s Soccer on Thursday. The Cards fought hard, but ultimately fell to Virginia, 1-0. Louisville had the majority of shots for most of the game, but couldn't get any across.
Virginia obtained the lead within the first seven minutes. At the 6:04 mark, Meghan McCool scored her first season goal against Gabrielle Kouzelos by taking her one on one, and booting the ball to the right side. It was the only shot Virginia took in the half.
Louisville, on the other hand, had two shots. One was on-goal, which missed.
In the second half, Louisville added two more shots. In the final minutes of the half, Virginia tied Louisville at 4 shots. The Cavaliers had just one more that was on goal. Virginia took the shot lead at the 86:45 mark in the game. Virginia finished with the 5-4 shot advantage. Two of their shots were on goal.
The Cardinals move to 9-3, and are 3-2 in the ACC. They will host Miami at noon on Sunday, October 7th. It is Senior Day at Lynn Stadium. Louisville women’s soccer hosts just one more game this season; before the ACC tournament.
