The Cards have played their final game in 2015, and they look to the new year with high hopes. A weak non-conference schedule left people doubting the talent of Louisville, their 2 losses coming to 2 top 10 teams in Michigan State and Kentucky. Both those losses came with a only 4 and 2 point difference, both on the road. Never the less, people will never be satisfied by the Cards blowing out teams by 30.
ACC play opens up on January 3rd for the Cards at the KFC Yum! Center vs Wake Forest. The ACC is known for being strong in men’s basketball, having teams such as Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, Notre Dame, and of course Louisville representing them in post season play. There are a few teams that will sneak up on you though in the ACC, the biggest dark horse being Miami. Miami has had a phenomenal start to their season led by transfer guard Angel Rodriguez. Another team that has had their ups and downs but will still be a tough opponent is Syracuse. The Orange have not had as much success as they have had in recent years, but they are always a tough team to play given their decorated program.
2015 proved that transfers Damion Lee and Trey Lewis could play some ball. Both lead the team is scoring, and their presence on the court is that of a leader. In the 9 months they have been at Louisville, their game has improved and coach Rick Pitino has taken their talents both Lee and Lewis didn’t know they could go. I would be shocked if I didn’t see these two in primetime some day.
The Cards will take the court for the first time in the New Year on Sunday, January 3rd at the KFC Yum! Center vs Wake Forest. Tipoff will be at 8 PM. Happy New Year Cards fans, expect great things to come from this team.
