Louisville, KY- The Cards look to stay undefeated at home Saturday as the Eastern Michigan Eagles come into the KFC Yum! Center with intentions on giving Louisville their second loss of the season. Eastern Michigan enters Saturday with a 5-3 record, all 3 of those losses coming on the road. The Cards are 6-1, their only loss coming at the hands of the Michigan State Spartans. Eastern Michigan has also squared off with Michigan State, losing 89-65.
Damion Lee leads the Cards with 19.1 PPG thus far. Lee, a graduate transfer from Drexel, was top 5 in scoring last season with the Dragons. Lee is also an excellent rebounder. He is larger than the average guard which gives him a height and strength advantage. We learned Lee is the real deal last Wednesday night in East Lancing, where Rick Pitino matched him up with one of the best players in the country, Denzel Valentine. Lee drove to the hoop at least 7 times, converting those drives into points. However, his 26 point effort was not enough that night in East Lancing as the Cards fell to the Spartans 71-67.
Willie Magnum, a junior guard for Eastern Michigan, is the team leader in points averaging 15.4 PPG. He has scored in double digits all but one game, a 80-73 road win for the Eagles against Omaha where Magnum only posted 4 points.
The Cards last game was a 111-63 win over Grand Canyon. Coach Rick Pitino stated that “we only played well for about 90% of the game.” A 90% effort may work against Grand Canyon, but Eastern Michigan has a scrappy defense, averaging 11 steals per game, 4th best in the NCAA.
The game will tipoff at the KFC Yum! Center at 11:00 AM, and will be televised on ESPN 3 and on the Watch ESPN App.
