Louisville, KY- The UMKC Roos will travel to Louisville for a late night matchup with the Cards, tipoff being at 9 PM. This game marks the first of the Billy Minardi Classic, named for the late brother in law of Cards head coach Rick Pitino. Minardi lost his life in the 2001 September 11th attacks.
Trey Lewis. Damion Lee. Need we say anything else? They are the top 2 scorers on the Cards roster. Lee, a guard who can also bang in the paint with some forwards, averages 4 rebounds a game along with his 18 points. And for Trey Lewis, he can also rebound the ball, along with picking some pockets to complement his 13 points a game. However, the Cards will feel the absence of Senior Forward Mengok Mathiang. Mathiang, who was the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational MVP, suffered an ankle injury Saturday vs Western Kentucky and will miss 6-8 weeks. However, forward Deng Adel was back on the practice court this week after suffering a hamstring injury vs North Florida in late November.
Martez Harrison leads UMKC in scoring, averaging 16 points a game. Harrison is the reigning WAC Player of the Year. He is also the 10th player in UMKC history to record 1,000 career points while playing for the Roos. The head coach of UMKC is Kareem Richardson, a former assistant of Louisville head coach Rick Pitino.
The game is a late one, tipping off at 9 PM at the KFC Yum! Center. The game will be televised on Fox Sports South (Louisville) and will also be available on ESPN 3 and the Watch ESPN App. For radio coverage, tune into WHAS 840 AM Louisville.
