The #13 Louisville men's basketball team opened up their season against Evansville on Friday night. The Cards won 78-47.
Evansville held a 26-20 lead in the mid-first half before U of L closed the half on a 23-1 run and 43-27 lead. The second half was just as big of a blowout as the first half closing.
Jaylen Johnson posted 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Cards. Donovan Mitchell added 15 points, five rebounds, and four steals while Anas Mahmoud contributed for 10 points, five rebounds, and three blocks.
For Evansville, Jaylon Brown seemed to be the only one able to break through the U of L defense. He had 19 points, but did little other than that.
Louisville out-rebounded Evansville 52-29 and also recorded 10 blocks. U of L did have 12 turnovers, but their weakest point may have been at the free throw line. As a team Louisville went 15-for-27 at the free throw line- 55.6%- and did not please Coach Pitino.
10 players scored for the Cards and 14 saw playing time.
Up next for Louisville is William and Mary and the KFC Yum! Center on Monday night.
