Excitement has grown for the men's soccer game on Friday, when Louisville hosts No. 1 Notre Dame. But there is a game before then that should not be overlooked. Xavier will visit Lynn Stadium on Tuesday, September 13, at 7:30 p.m.
At 2-1-2, the Musketeers are not a team to be overlooked. Hailing from the reconstructed Big East Conference, Xavier has looked tough this season.
Xavier started their season with a 3-1 victory over Evansville before falling to UAB 2-0 later that weekend. U of L tied UAB 1-1 during the preseason. The Musketeer's biggest game of the season was at then-No. 12 Virginia. They tied 1-1 in double overtime. Xavier also tied Dartmouth before defeating Cincinnati 4-2.
U of L's sole loss came at No. 16 Kentucky 1-0. A couple of their highlighted wins include a 2-0 victory at ACC opponent Pittsburgh and a 2-0 upset at then-No. 14 Connecticut. Junior Mohamed Thiaw leads the Cards in scoring with three goals this season. Tate Schmitt and Danny Reynolds hold one goal apiece.
On the defensive end, senior Stefan Cleveland has allowed two goals in five games this season. He has recorded nine saves and has three shutouts on the year.
Prediction Xavier has allowed at least one goal in every game this season. If the Cardinal defense can shut down freshman Derrick Otim it will make Cleveland's job a simple one. Louisville wins a thriller 2-0.
