The No. 8 Louisville Cardinals celebrated National Field Hockey Day by hosting No. 9 Boston College. Louisville was able to get away with a narrow 1-0 victory in the last seconds of the game.
Both teams were tied at the half. They each had the same number of shots. B/M Frederique Haverals had both shots for Boston College. F/M Biz Allgeier and F Katie Schneider had the shots for Louisville. Both of Louisville’s shots were on goal.
Louisville’s defense performed well. They only allowed one shot on goal, which was saved by Ayeisha McFerran, and prevented four corners from converting.
Louisville opened the second half aggressive. The Cards had six shots, three on goal, and two corners within the first eight minutes.
Louisville narrowly missed a goal with around 16 minutes left in regulation. The entire stadium believed that the Cardinals had a goal, but it was officially called a blocked shot by Sarah Dwyer. The ball apparently did not cross the line.
With six minutes left, Boston College began getting a few shots on McFerran and Louisville. McFerran saved three consecutive within a minute. BC had five shots overall.
The Cardinals had a corner at the end of regulation. The first attempt in the circle resulted in another corner. The next resulted in another corner. Then, on the third shot, Bethany Russ hit a shot that went past Dwyer, and prevented the game from going into overtime.
Louisville moves to 6-2. They host #11 Northwestern on Sunday at noon. The game is at Trager Stadium.
