If you like offense, Tuesday's game was for you.
The Louisville Cardinals defeated the Morehead State Eagles, 16-10. Five combined home runs were hit. Zach Britton and Logan Wyatt were both a triple short of a cycle. Louisville also extended their scoring streak against the Eagles to 11 innings.
Louisville forced Morehead State to blow through eight pitchers.
Bryan Hoeing started the game, and didn't have his sharpest outing. The right-hander went only five innings, and gave up six runs on eight hits. His ERA climbed to 6.23. He did earn the win, though.
The Cards put up five runs in the first inning. First, Logan Wyatt hit a double down the left-field line to score Devin Mann and Jake Snider. Then, Justin Lavey tripled to the gap in right to score Ethan Stringer and Wyatt. Finally, Britton singled down the line in right to score Lavey.
Wyatt notched another RBI in the second. He singled through the right side, scoring Snider. After two, Louisville led 6-0.
Morehead State scored their first run in the third. Left-fielder Eli Boggess hit a sac-fly RBI to center.
Louisville put up another five in the third. Britton led off the inning with a massive solo-shot to straightaway center. The ball went halfway up the batter's eye. Then, Tyler Fitzgerald went yard himself, hitting it well above the left-field wall. Then, another run scored on a catching error and throwing error by the shortstop. Drew Campbell looped a single to right for Louisville's next RBI.
Morehead State had a five-run fifth inning. They were propelled by a two-run RBI single up the middle, and a massive three-run shot to left.
Wyatt went yard in the bottom of the inning to right. He drove in Mann. In the sixth, Mann singled up the middle to score Josh Stowers from third.
The Eagles scored again in the top of the seventh. They hit an unearned infield RBI.
Ben Bianco pinch-hit for Zach Britton in the seventh, and hit a massive home run to right-center. It was his first career hit.
Morehead State once again scored, when Bryce Hensor hit a sacrifice fly and RBI to right. Brody Shoupe scored.
In the bottom of the inning, Louisville's scoring streak ended at 11 innings. Adam Elliott had a 3-2 count with the bases loaded, but swung on and missed.
Morehead State scored on an infield hit in the ninth. Then, they notched another on an RBI single up the middle. Michael Kirian came on to strike out the last batter to lock down the win.
The Cards move to 12-0. Louisville opens ACC play this Friday, when they host North Carolina at 6, opening a weekend series against the Tar Heels.
