Redshirt freshman leads teams with six touchdown receptions

Louisville QB Lamar Jackson isn't the only Louisville player that should be a household name. One of his receivers should, and will be. Dez Fitzpatrick, as good as he's been, has proven to be a more than capable player.

Standing at 6'2 he has a height advantage over most defensive backs. His 200 lb body is average for the receiving corps for the Cardinals is good to post up against any defender, but is also light enough to have one of the best speeds on the team.

Through six games Fitzpatrick leads the teams in receptions (26), touchdown receptions (6), and yards (414). Seth Dawkins and Jaylen Smith are close behind in receptions with 23 and 22, respectively, but Jackson's go-to receiver in tight situations has been number 87. No other receiver has more than two touchdowns, only one-third of what Fitzpatrick has done.

NC State was the first game Fitzpatrick hauled in more the four catches and broke 100 yards. It was only the second game of the season he failed to reach the end zone. However, he scored twice against Murray State and North Carolina.

As long as Smith remains out Dez Fitzpatrick will be the solid number one receiver. Upon Smith's return the two should share targets and Dawkins will fall to the number three spot.

Averaging 4.3 receptions per game, 69 yards per game, and one touchdown per game could put the redshirt freshman in running for ACC Freshman of the Year. He will need to step up his game is he wants to be in the running for ACC Player of the Year.

But still, not bad from the freshman wide receiver
