Every once in a while you get a player who is special. The talent ands energy they bring with them is unmatched. The women's soccer team has that right now in freshman Emina Ekic.
A hometown hero, Ekic took a trip down Floyd Street from DuPont Manual High School to Lynn Stadium. The midfielder was Kentucky Player of the Year her junior and senior years in college.
So far with Louisville Ekic has started every match. She averages one goal every two games and her seven goals are almost double the amount of any other player on the team. Allison Whitfield is in second with four goals.
When not scoring herself Ekic finds ways to help other players score. She is tied with Gabriele Vincent with three assists.
What seems to be even more impressing than her stats is the fact Emina Ekic is a nursing major. Nursing is one of the most time consuming degrees and this young freshman has managed to balance academics and athletics.
Keep an eye out at the end of the season to see what awards Ekic might receive. Louisville's fair 8-6 record might send attention elsewhere but there is no doubt that the talented Ekic could be looking at ACC Freshman of the Year and even ACC Player of the Year.
