Tuesday afternoon, reports surfaced that local businessman Vince Tyra will be the acting Athletic Director for the University of Louisville.
Tyra was previously the CEO of ISCO Industries, and the son of UofL great Charlie Tyra. The elder Tyra's No. 8 is retired for basketball. The younger was a Kentucky baseball player before becoming a member of the UofL Foundation board in February.
The news comes a week after Louisville AD Tom Jurich was placed on paid administrative leave after the surfacing of the newest scandal featuring the illegal recruitment of a basketball player. Men's basketball coach Rick Pitino was also placed on leave, and the process of firing him had begun.
Jurich's employment will be reviewed before the UofL Board of Trustee's regularly scheduled meeting on October 19th. He has received support from numerous fans and coaches after the news broke.
The naming was announced by UofL Interim President Greg Postel at a press conference on October 3rd, 2017.
