For the second straight game the Louisville men's soccer team recorded a shutout victory. This time, their foe was the Musketeers of Xavier University. The Cards won 2-0.
Junior midfielder Geoffrey Dee scored his first goal as a Louisville Cardinal. His goal came just a few minutes before halftime when the pass from senior Tim Kubel landed between Dee's feet and he lifted into the upper left corner of the goalpost. To add to the scoring, sophomore Tate Schmitt made his second goal of the season just 48 seconds into the second half. Schmitt intercepted a pass and found the back of the net, passing an unsuspecting goalkeeper.
U of L's defense stayed strong against an aggressive Xavier offense. Although the Musketeers pressed forward often and early, the Louisville defense made goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland's job easy. Cleveland recorded two saves and his fourth shutout of the year.
The win moves the Cards to a 4-1-1 record, with their only loss on the road to Kentucky. They return to action with No. 1 Notre Dame visits Lynn Stadium, at 7:00 p.m.
