A senior day celebration turned into a weekend long celebration as the Louisville field hockey team upset #3 North Carolina 1-0 before defeating Kent State 3-2.
Saturday games are rare for the field hockey team, but with a Friday night football game the team scheduled their game against the Tar Heels for 1:00 p.m. The #8 Cardinals found themselves as underdogs. Erin McCrudden took a pass early in the second half and knocked it through for the only goal of the match. Ayeisha McFerran collected four saves for her sixth shutout of the season.
Less than 24 hours later Kent State was in town for the Cards' senior day. The Golden Flashes raced out to a 2-0 lead and held a 2-1 halftime lead. Minout Mink tied things at two apiece with her second goal of the game before senior Lizzie Gittens connected for a late 3-2 advantage. The U of L defense held strong for the remaining time to seal the victory.
Louisville improves to 13-3 overall and 2-3 in ACC play. The Cads travel to Virginia on Friday, October 21, at 6:00 p.m.
