Winston-Salem, N.C.- The Louisville men's soccer team traveled to face Wake Forest in an ACC semifinal. The Demon Deacons took the win 2-1 just 89 seconds into overtime to advance to the championship. Louisville drops to 12-5-2 on the season, but are in prime shape to be invited to the NCAA tournament.
Trailing 1-0 with 50 seconds remaining in the game Tim Kubel took a shot just inside the post- his second in two games- for the equalizer. His goal gave the Cards an opportunity to shoot for the win in overtime, but was spoiled less than two minutes in.
Hayden Partain used some fancy footwork to zig-zag his way through the Louisville defense for a goal at the 28 minute mark. Stefan Cleveland was in position for the save, but Partain's shot got through.
In overtime, Ema Twumasi broke away on a run past the U of L defenders and his shot snuck just inside the right post for the win.
The Cards led 11-5 in shots, but were not efficient in converting those into goals. U of L's 19 fouls, to WF 10, continued to kill momentum at crucial points.
The #9 Cards now sit and wait to see where they will travel for the NCAA tournament. #2 Wake Forest is in position to host.
