ACC play did not start off too well for the Louisville men's basketball team. The Cards fell 61-53 to Virginia in their ACC opener. They later fell at Notre Dame 77-70.
With the 0-2 start Louisville is in dead last in the ACC. How often does that happen? The conference is good, but we'll turn around. Thankfully there was a win in Indianapolis against Indiana 77-62 in between those games.
Steve Vasturia scored a career-high 24 points as the #23 Irish upset the #9 Cards. Matt Farrell also tied his career-high with 22 points for Notre Dame. The poof fortune continued for Louisville's trips to Notre Dame. U of L hasn't won in Purcell Pavalion since before I was born, the spring of 1994. I came into this world a few months later.
Donovan Mitchell led the Cards with 20 points and Quentin Snider added 12 more. Anas Mahmoud accumulated six blocks on the night as the Cards blocked seven shots. Their average of 6.6 per game is sith in the nation.
Vasturia hit a layup with 20 seconds remaining, followed by four Notre Dame free throws to seal the win.
Notre Dame advances to 13-2 and 2-0 in the ACC while Louisville falls to 12-3 and 0-2.
Louisville will travel to Atlanta, GA to face Georgia Tech on Saturday, January 7, before traveling home.
