jurich fired for cause by uofl board of trustees
The Tom Jurich era is over. After a lengthy session, the University of Louisville Board of Trustees voted to terminate athletic director Tom Jurich. The final vote was 10-3.
Jurich is partially responsible for transforming the athletic department, and the campus since his tenure began in 1997. His legacy is bringing the university into the Atlantic Coast Conference. He also led the department to many titles, including the 2013 men's basketball championship. Jurich is regarded as one of the best athletic directors in the nation.
The vote comes after Jurich was placed on paid administrative leave late-September. An FBI report named UofL in an illegal recruitment ring involving apparel provider Adidas. former men's basketball coach Rick Pitino was also placed on leave, and then fired earlier this week.
Only time will tell what effect it will have on the University. Vince Tyra, the acting athletic director, will remain as Interim AD.
