The Louisville men's soccer team hosted the Virginia Cavaliers at Lynn Stadium for the second time this season. In their first match-up U of L walked away with a 6-1 victory. Their second time around was a bit closer, with the Cards winning 1-0.
The #10 and 3-seed Cardinals relied on Tim Kubel to score his second goal of the season to get the win. His goal came from 23 yards out inside the left post. His shot came right after Danny Reynolds' corner was cleared by the Virginia defense and Kubel fired it right back at them.
Goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland recorded a shutout with three saves. His defense allowed only four shots- three on goal- on the day, giving Cleveland an easier day in the box.
Virginia threatened to score in the second half on a breakaway from a defensive miscue, but the ball rolled just outside of the left post before a Cavaliers' player could chase it down for the goal.
Louisville improves to 12-4-2 on the year and travel to the #2 and 2-seed Wake Forest Demon Deacons (13-2-3) on Wednesday night. Wake Forest won the regular season match-up 2-1. #17 and 6-seed Virginia falls to 10-3-5. The loss was the Cavaliers first loss since September 24, also at Louisville.
