On Friday, the Cards traveled to Connecticut to face the 14th-ranked UConn Huskies. In the first true test against a top team, Ken Lolla's squad were up for the challenge.
Just 44 seconds into the match, Mo Thiaw struck first blood and put the boys in red up a goal. It was his second of the year. In the 29th minute, a Romilio Hernandez deflection fell at the feet of Tate Schmitt, who buried the rebound in the net to double the lead for Louisville.
With a 2-0 lead and two time reigning Ivy League defensive player of the year Stefan Cleveland in net, the Cards cruised to victory with Stefan only recording a single save.
The Cards play next on Tuesday in Lexington. The Louligans are sponsoring a fan bus to the match, costing students $10 and the general public $15. Included with the trip is a match ticket and a catered meal. Tickets for the trip are limited, but you can read about it and sign up for the trip at http://www.gocards.com/news/2016/8/31/fan-bus-offered-for-battle-of-the-bluegrass-mens-soccer-match.aspx?path=msoc .
