After defeating Miami one-nil, the ladies of the pitch played a tough match against another tough ACC team, the fourth-ranked Duke Blue Devils. The Cards had a streak of drawing 0-0 with Duke, but changed today. The Cards scored two on the fourth team in the nation, but it wasn't enough as The Cards lost 3-2 in the second overtime.

Duke opened scoring in the 22nd minute. Duke deflected a shot off Louisville's Gabby Vincent and into the corner of the net.

The Cards tied on a penalty kick by Emina Ekic in the 10th minute. She juked out the goalkeeper to one direction, and sent the ball to the right corner of the net, scoring her seventh goal of the season.

Then, Inger Katrine Bjerke scored in the 44th minute. Her first goal of the season was scored on a header off a corner kick. After the goal, The Cards led 2-1.

Duke tied the game in the 75th minute. The goal was scored by the Blue Devil's Taylor Racioppi off a cross into the box. The score would stand heading into extra time.

Then, in overtime, The Cards allowed a goal in the second overtime period. Louisville lost 3-2.

Despite the loss, the Cards hung with the fourth team in the nation until the second overtime. But this game means more than a loss. It proves they could compete with the class of the ACC. It may just give the team the confidence it will take to compete in the ACC.
Coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes gives a few remarks after the Cards were defeated by No. 4 Duke 3-2.

The Cards will need confidence heading into Clemson on the fifth of October. The ladies of the pitch return to Lynn Stadium after a two-game road trip on Friday, October 13th, hosting the Pittsburgh Panthers at 5:30.
