cards fight, defenses prevail, in clash with top-15 team
Another home schedule in the books. The Louisville Cardinals women's soccer team hosted No. 15 Wake Forest in the last regular-season game at Lynn Stadium. The ladies of the pitch played a defensive game, and drew the Demon Deacons, at no score.
The Cards began the game tough. They were on the attacking side of the field for the majority of the first half, only allowing three shots, two on goal. Goalkeeper Gabrielle Kouzelos saved both. It was the same story in the second. The Cards ended regulation with nine shots, four saves, and a rather high 16 fouls.
The best opportunity to score of the game came with 3:48 left in OT two. Three consecutive balls were shot, but none went to the back of the net. The first, by Emina Ekic, hit the crossbar. The next, by Alison Whitfield, was saved. And the third was a shot high by Alison Price.
Louisville moves to 9-6-1 with the draw. The Cards travel to UNC Sunday, and NC State Thursday, hoping to finish the season on a high note.
